The Experiment: Can a Storybook Replace a Lab Manual?

In any scientific or engineering practice, we begin by asking a question or defining a problem. Mine is simple. How do we inspire the “Missing Millions” if the science remains behind a cold wall of facts?
They say science belongs in the lab. I also have a different hypothesis. Biotechnology is only as powerful as the stories we use to teach it. For this reason, I traded my lab coat for a storybook 23 years ago to prove that a cell’s journey can be just as magical as any fairytale.
Although I admit that when I started this journey, I did not recognize the power of the soft skills I learned in college, I came to embrace and utilize them more during the COVID-19 pandemic.
They say Oprah Winfrey built a legacy on the belief that books can change the world. After 23 years in biotechnology and as an educator, I have come to realize she is right.
However, for our children to change the world through science, we must first make science feel like a story worth reading, inspiring hope for a future where every child sees themselves as a scientist.
I am currently testing this hypothesis. Would you help with the experiment by joining me in making science stories accessible to all?
I’ve traded my lab coat for a storybook to reach the “Missing Millions” in STEAM. From the energy factory of the human body to the wisdom of my Yoruba heritage, I am building a library that makes innovation palatable.
Coming Soon: Phase Two
I am finalizing my next project: Sunny’s Big Job & Benny’s Big Job, designed to turn complex science concepts into engaging stories that children can understand and love.
A Founder’s Note: My work may not yet have the whimsical prose of a classic by Dr. Seuss or Eric Carle, but it is the beginning of an idea, a new way to see the world where science and heritage live on the same page. It is a foundation I hope we can all build on together.
How you can join the “Lab” today:
Share this post to help reach an underserved school or library.
Explore my current collection (Gluca’s Great Adventure, Adanna’s Magical Pearls) on Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
Partner with me to donate books to a children’s hospital or community center.
Let’s work together to ensure the next generation not only studies science but falls in love with its stories, inspiring lifelong curiosity and learning.
