Conversation with Director Wilson mattered because of the importance of the Science Center in our community, Southern Maryland and its director is a woman of color managing and directing a phenomena Science Center.
As we consider ways to inspire more young girls and women to consider STEM careers, we must note the phenomenal work women do in our community and celebrate their achievements.
Director Wilson is an inspiration, and her lived experience is worth celebrating because she overcame her limitations to become a leader in our community and her story could inspire and empowering young people interested in pursuing a career in the STEAM field.
And the James E. Richmond Science Center is worth celebrating because it is a precious gem in our community. As you are aware, the Science Center stimulates curiosity (an essential virtue of any scientist). It provides an environment for engagement and inquiring minds and exposes young people and adults to positive and thought-provoking experiences. The Science Center helps students and adults simulate real-world phenomena using advanced technology like Science on a Sphere and Digital Dome Class and Theater to solve real-world problems.
Therefore, as we move towards immersive experiences, we must encourage the use of social technology that encourages collaboration within the district schools, schools across the nation, and worldwide industries.
Expect to see Science Centers across the country and worldwide utilize innovative technology like Science on a Sphere for collaboration, discoveries, and study of climate change.
