Representation matters in STEM! Dr. Gladys Delancey-Bolden sheds light on why many don't see themselves represented in STEM fields:
"I think a lot of it has to do with exposure. Many who pursue STEM often have a parent already in the field, exposing them early on. If you lack this exposure and encouragement—someone saying 'you can do this'—it's hard to envision yourself in that space. Seeing someone who looks like you or has a similar background is crucial."
Parents play a pivotal role, too. They must be informed about STEM opportunities and encourage their children to explore. Free programs offer exposure even if you need to become more familiar with STEM. Schools also play a vital part in promoting these opportunities to all students.
Let's bridge this gap together by providing exposure and encouragement to all aspiring scientists and innovators! 💪🔬
